CyberSafety and Knowledge Community

CyberSafety is a both a philosophy and an educational program.

The Philosophy:

CyberSafety is a way that corporate entities can work with the community to promote responsible use of the Internet by employees and the community.  Having a policy on Cyber Bullying, responsible use of personal details, ethics in use of IT etc are ways to become "CyberSafe".  It means that these entities also look at how their web services can be used for online communication by adding Bad Word Filtering, the ability to report poor behavior and providing information and resources to help those with problems on the internet.  Another practical way to contribute to the CyberSafe message is to donate or provide resources for research and/or promote the CyberSafe message.  While the CyberSafe message is focused on children it also applies to the issues for adults in the workplace as well as corporate responsibility regarding the type of systems companies have to protect users.

Knowledge Community is a CyberSafe organisation.

As such we promote education programs designed to assist young people deal with issues arising from internet use.

CyberSafety Teaching Resource

An Teachers of Media (ATOM) Resource for K - 12 CD:

Informing and empowering Australian kids, parents and teachers about cyberspace, games, mobiles and all 21st century interactive technologies.

Cyber Safe Kids is a comprehensive resource with information, video clips and interactive websites that is essential for parents, teachers and young Australians to have about every aspect of using and enjoying the Internet, mobiles, games and all other multimedia and interactive technologies

  • Information that will guide teachers and parents to empower students to understand and use the Internet and digital technologies responsibly.
  • Age-specific guidelines for how students use and understand the Internet and digital technologies.
  • Engaging classroom activities and strategies to support teaching and learning about digital and interactive technologies
  • Videos to view with your children aged 8-16 and effective strategies to discuss and monitor their use of the Internet, chat rooms, games, mobile phones and all other digital technologies.
  • Positive strategies that work to support schools’ CyberSafety Acceptable Use Policies and User Agreements, develop resilience and to educate parents.

Just like in the offline world, no amount of effort to reduce potential risks to children will eliminate those risks completely. We cannot make the internet completely safe. Because of this, we must also build children’s resilience to the material to which they may be exposed so that they have the confidence and skills to navigate these new media waters more safely.
